For when a little extra help is required with nursing
Breastfeeding is best for your baby but there may be times when complications arise. The Medela Special Needs Feeder has been designed for babies with nursing difficulties, particularly children with cleft lip/palate, weak babies or babies with Down's syndrome or other neurological difficulties.
The Special Needs Feeder:
- is sensitive to the weakest feeding effort
- has a one way valve to prevent flooding or overwhelming the baby
- is Bisphenol-A free
- is suitable for use with colicky babies
- reduces the risk of nipple confusion, helping you breastfeed longer
It works well for families of colicky babies as the valve design means that air must be expelled from the teat before it can fill with milk, meaning less air can be taken in by the baby.
The design of the teat also reduces the risk of nipple confusion as the baby must suck in a way much closer to breastfeeding than with normal teats – ideal if you want to give an occasional bottle of expressed milk without endangering your breastfeeding pattern.
If you are choosing this product due to feeding issues, we do recommend that you consult your breastfeeding counsellor or health professional for advice and guidance.
The Special Needs Feeder has been successfully demonstrated and recommended by Tracy Hogg (The Baby Whisperer).
Formerly known as the Haberman Feeder.
